I find it surprisingly difficult to "sell myself" or to put into words what actually happens within a therapeutic relationship, as each one is fundamentally different. Whilst many therapists offer respect, authenticity, compassion and empathy, it is not always easy to convey what these qualities look like in practice.
Each therapeutic relationship that I am part of is unique and co-created between myself and the client. However, a colleague once described my way of working in the following way
About me and my practice
I have been counselling for several years now. It has been my passion in life to build helpful relationships, and this is not an easy thing to describe. I believe people are complex and therapy is an opportunity to explore the complexities of life whilst moving forward to alleviate distress. I believe in people as equals and my practice attempts to celebrate this by promoting an environment of inclusion where I invite you to express what is difficult, to learn from your experiences or to find new directions. I do not dictate the direction of therapy or claim to know what therapy might be for you but only aim to offer an unconditional space, where you are heard and responded to in a helpful way.
Experience
I have been trained in different approaches to therapy but in the forefront of my thinking is that everyone is different. I try not to follow set dogmas within therapy choosing instead to focus on the relationship as the most important aspect.
